Hotjar's own sign-ups are closed: new users start on Contentsquare. TWIPLA was called Visitor Analytics until October 2023²³, and its Wix listing's address still says visitor-analytics⁶ (both checked October 6, 2026). We checked PostHog on October 6, 2026, and its free plan is bigger than Session Recordings' free allowance: 5,000 recordings a month against our 2,000¹⁴, plus heatmaps for up to 3 pages you choose¹⁶, which Session Recordings doesn't make. Smartlook isn't listed because it shuts down on September 30, 2027²⁴; see Smartlook alternatives for Wix.

What to check before you install one

How it's added. An App Market app installs with no code to paste. A tracking code goes in Wix's Custom Code, which Wix says needs a published site with a connected domain¹², and which loads before consent unless you set its Code Type to Analytics²⁵. Apps can have conditions of their own: Microsoft says Clarity "can only be used with registered account domains on Wix"⁴.
Whether it records your store. Hotjar's and Contentsquare's Wix guides say they can't collect data from Wix Stores, Forum, Pro Gallery or Events⁸⁹, while Lucky Orange says it tracks Wix eCommerce product pages, cart and checkout²². For any tool, check a product page in its replays or maps before you rely on it.
Whether you need heatmaps. Clarity, TWIPLA's app and the code-based tools make them; Wix Analytics' recordings and Session Recordings don't. Privacy: consent, typing and how long replays last

Replays show what visitors did on your pages, so check what each tool waits for and what it hides. Here are the six tools whose privacy details we checked (PostHog's on October 6, 2026).

Mouseflow, Crazy Egg and Lucky Orange are added as tracking code too: if yours goes in Custom Code, set its Code Type to Analytics²⁵, and check each tool's masking settings before you rely on it. Mouseflow keeps data for 1 month on Free and 3 months on Essential¹⁰, Crazy Egg keeps recordings for 6 months on Starter¹⁹, and Lucky Orange's storage starts at 60 days²¹. How long is long enough? It depends on what you need. Microsoft Clarity is free and adds heatmaps. TWIPLA bundles a whole analytics suite. Wix Analytics' own recordings keep history for up to 36 months on an upgraded site. Mouseflow, PostHog, Crazy Egg and Lucky Orange add heatmaps through a tracking code; PostHog adds analytics too, and its free plan had 5,000 recordings a month when we checked on October 6, 2026. Session Recordings masks all typing, follows your cookie banner and is free forever, with 2,000 recordings a month.

Which session recording tools for Wix are free?

Microsoft Clarity is free, with no paid version, and so is Session Recordings, with 2,000 recordings a month. Contentsquare (formerly Hotjar), Mouseflow, PostHog and TWIPLA have free plans with limits, and PostHog's is bigger than Session Recordings' allowance: 5,000 recordings a month against 2,000, when we checked on October 6, 2026. Wix Analytics' Session Recordings has a free tier of 3 recordings a month on an upgraded site.
