Can a Wix site handle high traffic?

Wix says its sites handle thousands of visitors at once, with unlimited bandwidth on paid plans. What slows a busy day down, and a check before a big sale.

A store's sale page replayed live in the Session Recordings player a few seconds behind, beside the replay list with three visits marked LIVE and an earlier one below them.

Yes, by Wix's account: its help center says Wix sites can handle thousands of visitors at the same time, and every upgraded plan has unlimited bandwidth. A free site has up to 1 GB of bandwidth, and Wix says it lets you know when a free site gets close to its limit. So before a busy day, put your time into what's in your hands: heavy pages, codes and the checkout.

Key takeaways

  • Wix says its sites can handle thousands of visitors at the same time, and every upgraded Wix plan has unlimited bandwidth.
  • Free Wix sites come with up to 1 GB of bandwidth and 500 MB of storage, and Wix says it lets you know when a free site gets close to its limits.
  • Wix's blog says its ecommerce hosting is stress-tested to process over 45,000 transactions a minute for sales events like Black Friday; that's Wix's own claim.
  • A week before a big sale, place a test order on a phone and a computer, try every code you'll promote, and check the sale pages on a real phone.

How much traffic can a Wix site handle?

Bandwidth, how much data your visitors can view at a time, is unlimited on every upgraded plan; a free site has up to 1 GB. Storage, for the images and files you upload, depends on the plan:

Wix planStorage
Free siteUp to 500 MB
Light2 GB
Core50 GB
Business100 GB
Business EliteUnlimited
Studio Basic10 GB
Studio Standard50 GB
Studio Plus120 GB

Wix's blog adds its own claims about stores. In a post published July 17, 2026 and updated August 24, 2026, Wix says its ecommerce hosting is stress-tested to process over 45,000 transactions per minute for high-velocity sales events like Black Friday, served through a global CDN with over 200 nodes, and that its multi-cloud hosting gives 99.99% uptime. These are Wix's figures, not ours.

What slows a Wix site on a busy day?

Often the page itself. Wix's media guide names too many images or videos above the fold and overloaded widgets as common causes of a slow home page, and says embedded videos from sites like YouTube can't be optimized by Wix. A sale day sends more people to those same pages, so fix them first: why a Wix site is slow covers the rest of what Wix says slows pages, and what to check when images or videos don't show on phones covers heavy media on mobile.

A check to run a week before a big sale

Run it a week before Black Friday, Cyber Monday or any sale you're sending people to, so there's time to fix what you find.

  1. Place a test order on a phone and on a computer, the way the checkout checklist's test order sets it up.
  2. Try every code and automatic discount you'll promote. Spin Wheel, our pop-up app, keeps a guide to Wix coupon codes that won't apply for when one fails.
  3. Open the sale pages on a real phone and check the menu and the pictures and videos.
  4. Send a test through every form, and check that it arrives; see why a Wix form won't submit.
  5. On the morning of the sale, look at Wix's Known Issues and status page.

How do I watch visitors during the sale?

Wix Analytics' Real-time page shows who's on your site now, counting a visitor as live if they did something in the past 5 minutes, with where they came from and which pages they're on. Session Recordings shows the visits themselves: visits in progress are marked LIVE in your replay list, and you can follow one a few seconds behind. Here's how live view compares with Wix's Real-time page.

After the sale: which visits to watch

Start with the visits that reached the cart and didn't buy. Open visits from the sale's busiest hours and play them at 4x or 8x until the cart comes on screen. Then open the sale page's heatmap for the last 7 days, on Phones and then on Computers, and read the Rage clicks and Did nothing views for buttons that didn't answer.

Session Recordings records 2,000 visits a month, free. If a sale uses them up, recording pauses until the 1st, so in a busy month your replays may cover only part of it; plan around the monthly allowance before the sale if you want the whole of it.

Frequently asked questions

How many visitors can a Wix site handle at once?

Wix's help center says Wix sites can handle thousands of visitors at the same time. Every upgraded plan has unlimited bandwidth, so a site on a paid plan isn't capped by data transfer.

Does a free Wix site have a traffic limit?

Yes, in data rather than visitors. Free Wix sites come with up to 1 GB of bandwidth and 500 MB of storage, and Wix says it lets you know if a free site comes close to its data transfer limits.

Will a traffic spike take my Wix site down?

Wix's blog claims 99.99% uptime and ecommerce hosting stress-tested to process over 45,000 transactions a minute. Those are Wix's own statements. On the day, Wix's status page shows whether its services are running normally.
